Visitors:
We thank Olga, Jeremy, Karen, and Bob for pointing out so many great birds
today. The extra eyes are always helpful! Once again thank you to all the
very keen members of the public for your visit and interest in our Hawk
Watch.
Weather:
It was warm and cloudless all day today, with a north wind in the first
half of the day. The wind died down and was from the south east for the
last half of the day.
Raptor Observations:
There were far less raptors than yesterday with the bulk being Broad-wings.
We had a good number of Merlins today with plenty more Sharpies.
Non-raptor Observations:
We had many people on the tower today and observed some species we have not
seen much of, such as Northern Waterthrush, Purple Finch, Rose-Breasted
Grosbeak and three more Sandhill Cranes. Today was a large migration day
for Monarch Butterflies, with an average of several hundred passing per
minute at 1:00.
See here: https://ebird.org/checklist/S118350894
Predictions:
Tomorrow should be warmer with south winds and therefore we may see raptors
at a distance to the north. More observers would be greatly appreciated
tomorrow!
