Cruising America's Great Loop and other inland routes
View all threadsThere have been a couple of negative comments about Victron Inverters, let
me add another. I have a Multiplus 3000 which I bought because Victron has
a service agent in the Eastern Caribbean whereas Magnum does not.
I am greatly disappointed with the information on the remote control display
on the Victron. Neither the battery voltage nor the amperage of the charge
are show. Just a series of leds showing bulk, absorb, or float. There is
also an led which indicates that shore or generator ac power is going to the
charger, but no indication of the voltage level or the hertz (important in
my case). I have had to add additional meters to provide this information.

Let me clarify my prior comments about victrons. The remote panel is not a battery monitor. They sell an excellent monitor that I am very pleased with. Their BMV 602 monitor does it all recording and providing complete information on battery status and history. This is a stand alone unit also can be installed separate from a multi It works great. My advice concerning not installing victrons in the hot engine applies to most inverters. Magnum included. None like heat. Bypass switches add flexibility as most inverter installations are wired with auto transfer switches e.g. Iota type. To facilitate generator auto start features included in these newer inverter chargers. Bypassing is a plus with any inverter charger in a heavy ac ladened boat. No us tech support is a big problem.
