Dear CITASA folks ~
You may know that the ASA is trying to support the social media efforts of its members with the ASA Task Force on Social Media. As the chair of this task force's subcommittee on skill development, I was hoping to rely on the expertise of many of you in the CITASA section to assist us in developing several "best practices" documents relating to social media.
Jessie Daniels, CUNY, has set up a commons / web space / and wiki here: http://mediacamp.gc.cuny.edu/wiki/ . The goal is for anyone who wants more information about how to use social media to register, login and participate. Would you be willing to add your extensive knowledge to this project? If so, please feel free to begin writing and editing right away.
This best practices wiki is part of a larger project that includes a series of MediaCamp Workshops at the ASA meetings in San Francisco this year. Registration details are still being worked out with the ASA Executive Offices, more updates about that as they become available. In case you're not familiar with these, MediaCamp Workshops are skills-building sessions for intellectuals who want to combine research and digital media for the public good. For a multimedia explanation, there's also a short video: http://justpublics365.commons.gc.cuny.edu/mediacamp/ . If you are interested in participating in the MediaCamp Workshops, please send an email to Jessie Daniels at jdaniels@hunter.cuny.edumailto:jdaniels@hunter.cuny.edu.
I look forward to working with you on this important project for the ASA. Please let me know if you need any further information: tina.fetner@mcmaster.camailto:tina.fetner@mcmaster.ca.
Warmly,
Tina
