The Helen S. Smith Gallery presents:
Lisa Turner: Plasticity
April 3 - May 3, 2023
Artist Talk and Closing Reception: Wednesday, May 3, noon
The artwork on display in the exhibition Plasticity, juxtaposes consumer objects with the visual language of medical illustrations. In some cases, consumer objects and organs act as landmarks in an environment, other times they morph together to create a new hybrid form. The resulting compositions appear as piles, (un)traditional still lives, Frankenstein like figures/masses, or surreal landscapes. By linking consumerism with the science of the body, it is the goal of the artist to foster multiple interpretations that might lead to discussions surrounding obsolescence, the ephemeral nature of consumption, environmental concerns, or the endless quest for individuality through consumerism.
