That's a great quote, Randal, one that captures the essence of why
and how many of us are crazy about boats.

the nicest thing about boatyard people is that we're
are all quite mad - but almost all of the ones i've
met are mad in the most pleasant and engaging ways.
it brings to mind an old T-shirt slogan from
a couple of generations back - "Why be normal?"
Indeed - "average people" do not, by definition,
do wonderful things like messing about in boats
and making passages across oceans to see beyond
the far horizon. true, most people start out
"average", but if they are lucky, they find
madness and passion about something wonderful.
maybe it's little, maybe it's big, but it
sets them apart from the ordinary, even if it's
just a dream - they have the wonderful madness.
i find i prefer the company of gentle madmen...
cheers,
-mo
ps - airplane people are wonderful crazy, too....
