Cruising America's Great Loop and other inland routes
View all threadsOn the Ohio river we often have that brown stain develop as we cruise. It is very easy to remove with a deck brush dipped in some wood bleach (oxalic acid) and water. The brown just fades away in minutes.

You can buy wood bleach at Ace Hardware or on line. It is a powder and it does not take
much in water to make the brown mustache disappear (no scrubbing) then we wax again and your good to go!

Also there's a brand of toilet bowl cleaner that contains oxalic acid that
does a great job on the moustache.

Sno- bowl I believe you're referring to. Works great but it is strong so you have to be careful with it. Gloves etc.

Here is another suggestion from Stray Cat: Available at West Marine and other marine stores. Mary Kates Roll on and Off Hull and Bottom Cleaner. Comes in a 1 qt bottle, use gloves and we used a micro cloth to apply….. Multiple uses including Moustache, barnacles, really great on rust and does not harm the fiberglass, actually seems to give it a shine.
