I have the reverso system with the gear pumps. THey are good and durable. However, if you require a lot of suction or have a long distance before the oil reaches the pump it is important to give them a little prime of something heavy like used 75-90 hypoid gear fluid to seal things up good. Keep some in an old mustard bottle and give them a squirt of a tablespoon or two down a short hose.

Snip-Where do you inject the oil?
Comment/Response-My system is not hard piped to the engine or the transmission so I have a reinforced rubber hose with a stinger on it that goes down the engine dipstick and a bigger one that goes into the transmission. I put it in the suction hose. If you have a hard piped system I would add a tee in the suction line as close to the pump as possible. Then add two valves, one below the tee and one on the stem of the tee and put a short hose on the stem, close the valve below the tee, open the valve on the stem of the tee with the rubber hose and put a couple tablespoons of oil in and start the pump for 10 seconds or so and suck it into the gears. Then close the valve on the stem of the tee and open the one below the tee and suck the oil out as normal.
My system is also reversible and can be used to pump oil into the engine or transmission from a jug but I don't use that. If yours is reversible you can put a bit of priming oil into the discharge hose and reverse the pump so that is the suction and draw it into the gears.
It only takes a bit to help seal things up so the pump can suck much better.
All the best,

Rudy,
SNip-what brand of mustard bottle?
Comment-Clearly Plochman's is the answer. The mustard for cheap connoisseurs! It also is a great bottle for squirting with its twist top closure. Of course you could use Kraft whose bottle is rectangular rather than round like Plochman's which can be an advantage on a boat but the top on the Kraft is not near as 'squirt friendly' as the Plochman's.
