Group Art Show, call for entries

Theme: Baggage Claim

Show Description: The baggage we carry consists of layers of history and
experiences that make us uniquely who we are. As artists, that baggage
invariably influences our work, sometimes subtly, and sometimes overtly.
This exhibit will feature 10 or more new works from Tacoma-area artists
based on a non-traditional interpretation of a self portrait. Art pieces
should explore and expose the artist's personal baggage (emotional,
cultural, socioeconomic, etc.) and turn that baggage literally and
figuratively into art.

*Your artwork: *Participating artists will be asked to produce a personal
work within, or otherwise using an actual piece of luggage/baggage as their
starting point. Artists can choose a suitcase supplied by the Organizer, or
they may use a suitcase of their choice.

*Size of final artwork: *Suitcase art pieces should be medium sized, no
larger than approximately 24x30 inches. Baggage art will be ideally
displayed on the horizontal aspect, on a rotating baggage carousel, inside
a stylized airport baggage claim setting. (If an artist simply must use a
vertical aspect, show organizers will do our best to accommodate the
artist’s vision). However, artwork must be self contained, with no
requirement for external power, and must have no trailing pieces that could
become tangled in rotating machine parts - Important!

*Apply to participate: *Please send your initial submission via email. This
should include your name, contact information (email, phone, Facebook
and/or Instagram), plus 5 jpg or pdf images of artwork that is similar to
what you might produce for this exhibition - the jury will be especially
looking for 3D, assemblage work of a conceptual nature. If you do not have
work similar to what you would produce for this project, but you would like
to be considered, send 5 jpg or pdf images of your best recent work, and a
sketch of work that you might produce for this baggage-themed exhibit.
Remember
to include your name, relevant contact information, and social media links.

Timeline:

  1. Initial submission: Due Midnight, May 19, 2024
  2. Review of submissions: May 20 - May 26
  3. Artist notification: Artists accepted for participation in this
project will be notified by May 27, 2024.

Group Art Show, Call for entires DEADLINE is this Sunday night!

Theme: Baggage Claim

Show Description: The baggage we carry is made up of layers of history
and experiences that make us uniquely who we are. According to Psychology
Today this baggage is “… an inevitable part of the human condition and
something that most of us carry around with us… and only wish we could
unburden ourselves and unpack.” This exhibit offers artists the chance to
do just that, and will feature 10 or more new works from Tacoma-area
artists. Artists are asked to create a non-traditional interpretation of a
self portrait that explores and exposes the artist's personal baggage
(emotional, cultural, socioeconomic, etc.) and turns that baggage literally
and figuratively into art.
