Primarily an installation artist, Behrle has been creating intimate sound sculptures since 2013 that imagine what light sounds like and what sound looks like. In his multimedia sculptures, Behrle embeds cutting-edge technologies into the bodies of old radios, phonographs, and cameras, assigning new functions to each object while drawing upon its cultural history and design aesthetics for inspiration. The devices he creates can transform the motion of light passing through water into hypnotic drones, or allow viewers to listen to the colors of a stained glass window, and even envision what the rhythms of the night sky might sound like. Behrle will also unveil a brand new digital installation “the gravity of light” created with images of the sun revolving around its axis taken by NASA’s Solar Dynamics Observatory. The artist combines real images from space with line work of imaginative orbital paths to create a vibrant, mystical animation. The result resembles a stained glass window.
