National Coalition for Literacy Discussion List
View all threadsThis is from a couple of weeks ago -- a Learning Policy Institute analysis that suggests that as many as 320,000 K-12 teaching positions could be lost across the U.S. due to COVID-19 economic damage, with some states losing close to 20% of their existing teaching positions.

Again, while the above isn't directly related to adult ed, a state/local budgetary environment that looks like like is likely one that puts state/local adult education programs -- and even whole state systems -- at risk, based on what we experienced during last recession. Of course this economic downturn is many, many times worse.
This is not taking into account the possibility of new federal relief to states and local governments, but it's not clear yet how that is going to play out. The House Democrats' "HEROES" Act, released this week, does includes $915 billion for states, but this proposal, at least in its present form, isn't going anywhere in the Senate.
Also of interest: our friends at the Migration Policy Institute released an analysis today estimating that 5.5 million U.S. citizens and green-card holders were excluded from receiving the $1,200 pandemic relief checks Congress approved in March, because of the immigration status of their parents/spouse.
