Art Festival returns to downtown Gig Harbor

100-plus artists and craftspeople will participate July 16 & 17

(GIG HARBOR, WA) After a two-year absence, Gig Harbor’s Summer Art Festival is back July 16 and 17. Sponsored by the Peninsula Art League (PAL), the festival features more than 100 artists and craftspeople from throughout the Northwest showing and selling their work, including paintings, yard art, photography, ceramics, glass, leather, wood and other mediums.

Local poets, authors and book-illustrators will be showcased at the festival’s Literary Corner.

Food trucks will be on hand to satisfy hungry shoppers, and youngsters will find fun things to do in  special just-for-kids area.

Plein air artists will record the activity in on-the-scene paintings, and artwork by PAL members will be on display in the nearby Timberland Bank branch.

On Saturday, festival-goers can express their own creativity on the sidewalks along the historic waterfront during “Chalk the Harbor” – a maritime-themed event presented by the Downtown Waterfront Alliance. Public participation is welcome. Sign-up and get your chalk at the registration table near the intersection of Harborview and Pioneer Way, just a block from the festival.

Avoid downtown traffic and parking hassles by parking for free and catching the free shuttle at the Franciscan Medical Center on Kimball Drive. The shuttle runs every 15 minutes to and from the festival site.

The festival is Peninsula Art League’s primary fundraiser. Proceeds provide scholarships for PAL members and local high school students who want to continue their art education. Art Festival profits are also shared with the community through PAL-sponsored art shows, workshops and exhibits throughout the year.

All events are free. Thanks to the City of Gig Harbor and Timberland Bank for their generous support.
