Gig Harbor artist wins Best of Show award in Peninsula Art League’s annual Open Show

Ann Stockdale’s oil painting “Four Amigos” was selected from 50 entries

GIG HARBOR — A colorful, abstract oil painting of four friends won the coveted Best of Show ribbon and a cash prize in Peninsula Art League’s 19th annual Open Show. The painting by Gig Harbor resident Ann Stockdale was selected by show juror Jennifer Evenhus from among 50 artworks by artists from across the country. Evenhus is a well-known pastel painter from Wenatchee, Washington. The show is on display at the Harbor History Museum through Nov. 27.

Most of the entries in the show came from Puget Sound-area artists, but artists from as far away as California, Arizona and Colorado also submitted artworks, according to Open Show chair Carlene Salazar.

Other cash prizes went to Lisa DeBaets; Ed Whitmore; Jacqueline HIckey, Pat Meras, Joan Teed; Charles Salak, Donna Trent and Larry Parkhurst. A People’s Choice award will be announced on Nov. 27. Be sure to vote for your favorite artwork.

The history museum is located at 4121 Harborview Drive on the historic Gig Harbor waterfront. The museum is open Thursday, Friday and Saturday, 11am-4pm. Admission is free; masks are required in the museum.

This year’s show is supported by a grant from the City of Gig Harbor’s Lodging Tax fund.
