Scanner 3488A upgrade ?

Hello volt-nuts,

I have purchased an old 3488A scanner mainframe, from 1987.
Years later, an update kit 44488A was available, to support new scanner
cards, 44470D and 44471D.
This kit is no longer available.

I assume, that this kit simply contained a new firmware in an EPROM,
plus an adaptor to the old pinning.

Does anybody have the content of this EPROM, or perhaps have even the
description of the update procedure?

Thanks Frank

I don't know specifically about SW revs, but:

The EPROM in the 3488A is not socketed.

I have the guts of a 3488A here that I bought for spares. The number on
the EPROM label is 03488-88802.

Most of the date codes on the chips are 98.

If you are interested in the processor board, power supply, or backplane,
drop me an email off-list.

Best,

-John

Hallo Frank,

bei der Suche was die bekannten Surplushändler so haben (die ich meide
:)) glaube ich vor kurzem ein 3488 beim Helmut Singer(?) gesehen zu
haben für wenig Geld.

Vielleicht steckt da drin was Du brauchst ?

Hello Hendrik,

I also do so, normally, but in this case, I purchased that instrument
"from the pile", untested, as a bargain.

It's in good state, working fine, and its from 1995, inside.
ROM is Rev B, 1818-3830.

But exactly for this, I need the firmware update, which was a few years
later..

Thanks for your hint, anyway

Frank

The SW REV is shown like this :

***** SNIP *****
3488A Upgrade Instructions (Installing updated 3488A Control Board that
supports 44470D and 44471D modules)

Test for upgrade

Connect the power cable and power up the Agilent 3488A, press the TEST
key just below the
display window. The display “ 3488A 1998” identifies that this Agilent
3488A mainframe has
been upgraded successfully (the existing 3488A just displays “3488A”)
***** SNIP *****

So if the TEST key shows “ 3488A 1998” , it's a "new" one

This board came from a unit that was disassembled to the module level.
