Jim,

The correct boat to do the loop has been an endless discussion on this
group.  Skipper Bob once said get the smallest boat you can be comfy in.  I
agree.

And I say get an American Tug 34 or 365 (same boat)  It's a serious ocean
boat happy in 8 foot waves, and has some features that make it terrific for
locking in canals.  And it's easy to singlehand.  Expensive though.

New to list. Lived aboard a Tayana37 for a couple of years and now looking
for a trawler to do the great loop. Understand that I need something with a
maximum draft of 5 feet and air draft no higher than 22 feet.

Before I heard of Skipper Bob, my theory was that I wanted the largest boat
I could afford and handle that was single screw. My theory is that the
larger boat provides more comfort and increases the standard of living on a
boat. The smaller the boat the more living on it is like camping.
