TWL: Re Partial Panic mode

I would like to clarify a few things on this boat project and thank those
folks who have responded with concern for spending the time with my father.
Spending quality time with my father is not in danger of falling through the
cracks. My fallback is a 31' Airstream travel trailer.  Quality time doesn't
have to strictly be on the water.

The second thing is that I am much faster at working on this type of project
than the average person trying to take on a project like this. None of this
work is new.  I do have the time and I am very dedicated to a daily work
routine without fear of burning out.  I have a very good idea of how long it
takes to do what task.  My estimate of November 1 is really a worse case
scenario.  I am hoping for October 1.  Shakedown is not as big an issue with
me as most people. The boat is not going to be complicated, I am very
mechanically inclined and I will not be very far from shore. I can easily put
an outboard bracket on the boat for auxiliary power if I don't trust the
engine.

What really got me to questioning everything was looking at automatic fire
suppression systems in the Defender catalogue and wondering first if automatic
fire suppression is essential now, or could I add it later and in looking at
the catalogue I can't figure out what I would even order. I have no idea If I
am looking at complete systems or just parts.  I am just afraid that adding to
much will push the project finish date to far ahead.  What is everyone's
thoughts I what is essential for Southern Florida/ maybe Bahamas on a good
day?

Make sure you have at least one good VHF panel mount 25 watt radio,
preferably two, with another handheld as a backup. Tools, good set of
charts, and a Towboat/U.S. Unlimited Towing policy. Oh yea, all the USCG
safety items of course.
