6/11 Milford, Connecticut Audubon Coastal Center. 9:50am-12:50PM. sunny,
75F, mid-tide, rising.
Many visitors again today, some from out of state and others from Puerto
Rico.
I was greeted in the parking lot by a very vocal Mockingbird and Song
sparrow. Our Purple Martin colony continues to be very active, with Purple
Martins gathering nesting material, hawking insects and peeking out from
their gourds. Our Purple martin camera is online now, so if you go to our
website and search Purple Martin cam, you can see that gourd has an egg.
Our Osprey chicks (3) are growing and getting feathers. The male & female
are very good providers. There were about 3-4 other ospreys cruising over
the marsh.
On the marsh: 2 American Oystercatchers, 1 Tree swallow, 9 Mute swans, 1
Great Blue Heron, 2 Yellow crowned night herons (1 was being chased by a
Common Grackle), and 9 D.C. Cormorants.
On the grounds & feeders: 1 Carolina Wren, several Robins, Red Winged
Blackbirds, 6 House Finches, 5 Common Grackles, 2 Mourning doves, 3
Cardinals, and House sparrows.
