Things are heating up at Museum of Glass! August brings a full calendar of events, both at the Museum and in the community. Read on for all the great ways to engage with MOG this month.

HOT SHOP VISITING ARTISTS

August 12-15 | Hilltop Artists

For over 25 years Tacoma's Hilltop Artists has been transforming the lives of youth through the power of art and adult mentorship. Watch as they work with the MOG Hot Shop Team to create centerpieces for their annual Celebrating Better Futures event.

August 19-22 | Wes Valdez

Wes Valdez is a Philadelphia-based artist and educator. Using color, optics, light, and texture, he creates simple yet visually satisfying sculptural forms.

August 14 | 1-4pm
Family Day: Perfect Prisms

Revel in the opulence of Rene Lalique: Art Deco Gems from the Steven and Roslyn Shulman Collectionhttps://www.museumofglass.org/rene-lalique and learn about the lifestyles of the Roaring Twenties. MOG educators will be on hand to lead you in creating a crystal suncatcher to bring some Lalique gems and light into your home.

August 15 | 1-5pm
A Most Beautiful Thing: Celebrating Harlem Renaissance Poetry and Lalique Glass

In coordination with René Lalique: Art Deco Gems from the Steven and Roslyn Shulman Collectionhttps://www.museumofglass.org/rene-lalique, Museum of Glass is collaborating with Write253https://www.write253.com/ to celebrate poetry from the 1920s read by young, local poets, including Lydia Valentine, Tacoma's Poet Laureate.

August 21-22 | 11am-3pm
Glass on the Go! Catch MOG's Mobile Hot Shop at the Eastside Community Center

Bring the family to witness live glassblowing from the Museum's Mobile Hot Shop and participate in family craft activities at the Eastside Community Center.

August 28 | 10am-5pm
Pop-Up on the Plaza! Art Market * Glassblowing * Local Treats * Marble Races

Join Museum of Glass on the last Saturday of August for Pop-Up on the Plaza. This special summer event will bring glassblowing from the cone to the outdoor plaza via the Mobile Hot Shop. In addition to watching MOG's Hot Shop Team create art, visitors will also enjoy a glass art market, food trucks, and marble themed activities with the Tacoma Marble Man, Ernie Kirk. Inside MOG educators will offer hourly tours through featured galleries.
