LAND WORK FOR WATER TRAINING WORKSHOP

MAY 21, 2016

OWATONNA, MN

Want to do some water training with your dog, but aren't sure where to start
?  Or maybe you don't have easy access to water, so need additional
opportunities to train?  Maybe you have specific problems you'd like to work
on? Or perhaps, as is often the case in Minnesota, the water's so cold that
you have a very short training season in the water?  If you answered yes to
any of the above, come to the workshop on "land work" for water training!
Land work can be a great tool for water training.

Whether working with a very young puppy who has never been swimming, or a
seasoned water dog, there's plenty that can be done on land, to introduce
various exercises, or to fine tune things.  Even dogs that don't know how to
retrieve can be started with various exercises on land...and you'll also
learn the steps for teaching a reliable retrieve.  No water training
experience is needed to participate in the workshop.  There will be plenty
that dogs of all ages and stages of training can do.

There will be plenty of opportunity for hands-on experience doing "land
work" with the dogs. Videos of the different levels of NCA water tests will
also be available. Participants will be expected to help with each other's
dogs..the more people help each other, the more everyone will accomplish.

There will be three experienced instructors - Ann & Andre Lapeyre and Ann
Dunnigan.  All three regularly train in obedience, draft and water - have
extensive titles on their newfs including WRDX titles and have put on
numerous workshops in the past.  With three instructors we will run three
"stations" at a time so everyone will get plenty of hands on time.

We will view videos (old fashioned VCR tapes) of our dogs doing each of the
levels at a test so that people can not only see the exercises but can see
how tests run.

While our goal is to serve regional club members, non-members and non-newfs
are welcome from our standpoint. However, please contact Ted Mittelstadt at
tjm88@charter.net for a full registration packet.

Anyone interested should download the current rules from the NCA website and
read them before the workshop.
