WEST MARINE TRAWLER FEST
POULSBO, WASHINGTON ~ JUNE 5-8, 2002
. . . it's not just a boat show!
WHAT'S NEW FOR POULSBO 2002. Building on the last six years, Poulsbo 2002
attendees will experience a totally revitalized seminar program. In every
one of the nine time slots over the three day program there is at least
one new seminar never presented at Pousbo before. In fact, of the 27 time
slots, over 20 are new presentations.
Below is a sampling only. For registration and detailed information call
1-888-wmtfest (1-888-968-3378), visit your local West Marine store, or log
on to http://www.trawlerworld.com.
PASSAGEMAKER OF THE YEAR
Michael took Starship, his Northern Marine 75, on a 1,009-day voyage to
visit 53 countries. During a multimedia presentation, Michael will show a
portion of the 45,000 pictures and 400 hours of video he collected during
his 75,000-mile adventure of a lifetime. The adventure started in
Anacortes, not far from Poulsbo, where Northern Marines are built, and
concluded in Hamburg in Michael's native Germany. Michael gave his
presentation at Solomons and received the most rave reviews ever. This
presentation is so good, we have scheduled it for a double seminar slot.
It is an opportunity not to be missed.
KEYNOTE ADDRESS: GO VOYAGING! GO CRUISING! GO NOW!
Do you dream of adventure, of cruising on your own boat far and wide?
Marlene Allen, author of "Running With The Tide", will urge and inspire you
to be proactive in making dreams come true. She lives by the axiom stated
by Will Rogers, "You can be on the right track, but if you just sit there
you'll get run over." Marlene and her husband, Bob, have been on the
cruising track, first under sail and, now, power, for an astounding 37
years--with no plans to stop now. She tells it all, the good, the bad and
the ugly of cruising - sharing small quarters with another, the thrills of
each new landfall, guests on board and what makes it all seem so right.
LIVE ON-WATER DOCKING DEMONSTRATION FOR SINGLES
Using spring lines, the poor man's bow thruster; Back & Fill, a practical
application in prop/rudder interaction; Spinning a single-engine boat in
nearly a boat length; Approaching/departing a crowded fuel dock; Managing
adverse wind and currents; and Crew communication and responsibilities.
These will be the topics demonstrated as Peter Pisciotta of SeaSkills
demystifies single-engine boat maneuvers.
LIVE ON-WATER DEMONSTRATION OF CREW-OVERBOARD RESCUE FROM A TRAWLER
This live demonstration will show what to do if someone takes an unexpected
tumble into the drink. Rescue of the person in the water is one of the most
vexing problems in seamanship, due to limited visibility and
maneuverability that many trawlers offer. It's especially troubling for
couples should the captain go overboard. Learn from the pros on how you can
prepare your boat for hoisting a crew member out of the water, what
maneuvers work, and what equipment will increase your chances of a
successful rescue.
COLOR AND SPACE ABOARD TRAWLERS
A beautiful interior can make cruising an ongoing joy. Make good use of
space and color to help you achieve your personal design goals. Lowie Bock
of Salty Dawg, a Pilgrim 43 Custom, explains the basic principles of space
and color so you can design a new interior or facelift an existing one.
Lowie has a degree in interior design and is a juried artist.
NETWORKING FOR WOMEN WITH WOMEN ABOARD
The international network for women in boating, Women Aboard, invites all
Sea Sisters and interested guests to their reunion and program. Plenty of
time will be allocated to networking, and attendees will have the
opportunity to informally Q&A experienced women who have thousands of
nautical miles under their keels. An informative and fun afternoon hosted
by the Pacific Northwest Chapter of Women Aboard.
NETWORKING YOUR TRAWLER AS A SOHO
Are you a liveaboard or do you do substantial computer-related work while
aboard? Do you need a Small Office/Home Office environment onboard? Bob
Miller will present a solution for you during a hands-on presentation
aboard Loon Song 2, his 55-foot HiStar Yacht Fisherman.
In all, thirty seminars and presentations, and dozens of boats at the
seventh annual West Marine Trawler Fest in the Pacific Northwest, taking
place June 5-8 in picturesque Poulsbo, Washington, near Seattle. Visit
http://www.trawlerworld.com for full details & registration.
