Hello,

Join us this Thursday August 31st 7pm at King's Books to celebrate the
debut novel from poet and activist Robert Lashley. Omar Willey will join
Robert Lashley for reading and discussion of Lashley's new book, I Never
Dreamed You'd Leave In Summer
.

Lashley's newest work draws from his experience coming of age in Tacoma's
Black communities. Mixing campus satire with an ode to the working class
culture of Black beauty salons, Lashley presents a complex parable on the
subject of grace, with a nuanced exploration of themes such as racism,
sexism, and community accountability.

Robert Lashley was a 2016 Jack Straw Fellow, Artist Trust Fellow, and a
nominee for a Stranger Genius Award. He has released three collections of
poetry, including his most recent *Green River Valley *from Blue Cactus
Press, and The Homeboy Songs which Entropy Magazine named one of the 25
essential books to come out of Seattle.

*"Robert Lashley’s poetry is a floodgate, and when it’s in front of you,
it’s impossible not to engage with it. His performances have no pretense,
just full-bodied delivery. His work is uncompromising, and the way he
delivers it to an audience feels trusting and generous, like he leaves a
piece of himself onstage." - *Sarah Anne Lloyd for The Ticket

This event is free and open to all ages, though may include discussion of
adult themes.
