Harris-Stowe to Offer Free Assistance to Complete the FAFSA

ST. LOUIS, MO (January 19, 2012) - Harris-Stowe State University is
hosting "FAFSA Frenzy" to assist students and their parents with
completing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), the
first step in applying for federal financial aid and state programs.

The Missouri Association of Student Financial Aid personnel and the
Missouri Department of Higher Education are partnering closely to bring
an expanded College Goal Sunday program, called FAFSA Frenzy, to
Missouri for 2012. To assist students and parents with the FAFSA
process, financial aid professionals will be on hand at Harris-Stowe's
FAFSA Frenzy, Sunday, February 12, 2-4 p.m., in the AT&T Library and
Technology Center on the HSSU campus.

FAFSA Frenzy events will be held throughout the state, and the
participants of these events will be eligible to win one of four $1,000
scholarships! Winners will receive their scholarships upon receipt of
enrollment verification for the 2011 fall semester at a Missouri
postsecondary institution.

Families who bring their completed 2011 income tax returns to a FAFSA
Frenzy event will be able to complete the 2012-2013 FAFSA on site.
Families who have not yet completed their tax returns can fill out the
FAFSA at home after attending the workshop.

This year marks the ninth year that Missouri has participated in College
Goal Sunday. Since 2003, College Goal Sunday/FAFSA Frenzy has helped
more than 7,300 Missouri students obtain financial aid. Most colleges
and technical schools require students to complete the FAFSA in order to
assess financial need. (Financial need is defined as the difference
between the total cost of attending a specific college and the amount a
family is expected to contribute toward that cost.)

Among students and parents who attended FAFSA Frenzy in 2011, only 14.5
percent indicated they could have completed the FAFSA without
professional assistance, and 92.5 percent said they found the event
worth their time. For more information about Harris-Stowe's FAFSA
Frenzy, please call HSSU's Office of Financial Assistance at (314)
340-3500 or visit www.hsssu.edu http://www.hsssu.edu/ .
