Hi Listees:
It has been a long time since my last posting. Our 53' full displacement
offshore trawler is finally nearing completion in a B.C. boatyard. Expect
completion in March, 2004.
It's time to purchase electronics and get them installed. I have one estimate
that seems high and was wondering if any listee's have used any electronic
firms in the B.C. area and/or/if you could make any recommendations. Any imput
would be appreciated. I have decided on motly Furuno, Simrad autopilot and
Shakepeare antennas.

I've found Consumer's Marine Electronics to have the best prices
consistently. You can buy from them and pay freight but no sales tax, or
take their quote to a local firm and they will probably match the price, but
you'll pay sales tax. See: http://www.consumersmarine.com/.

You can sleep in a trawler; you can't cruise in a house.

This is not my experience at all. Dave's Marine Electronics has far better
pricing and further discounts on packages.
http://www.brokenlegdave.com No relation, no nothing. He is in California
so that's closer than NJ. There's got to be someone in B.C. or Washington
State who can come close to these prices.

Not that I know of, and I live there. On Raytheon stuff, www.pyacht.com
has absolutely the best prices (e.g. RL70C display at $1758 vs $2120 at
Dave's). There prices on lots of other electronics (such as on EPIRB's) is
also the very best. Very good service as well. They occasionally have
Raytheon refurbs that are spectacularly good deals. It pays to be on their
mailing list.
