Our solution was to buy a 3 KW step down transformer in Europe. It was cheap and all resistive loads worked well on 50 hz. Some loads did not work well--and our 1 hp freezer compressor was one of these. So we had to run the genset an hour to two hours a day for that and some other loads.
There are battery chargers which work on both 50 and 60 hz--I think that today, it would be wise to have a good battery bank and run an inverter to run the frequency dependant systems, and charge with the dedicated battery charger the rest of the time.
If the boat was going to be primarly used in Europe, I would consider 240v, 50 hz power systems.
