Aluminum Hull inflatable

It is time to replace the inflatable and outboard on our 52' Grand Banks Europa. We currently have a 12' Carib with 15 HP Honda.

I am considering a 12' ZAR, Aluminum hull with a Suzuki 20hp DF20ATS2.

I would like to keep as much weight off the boat deck as possible and thus the reason for considering the metal boat.

I would love to hear any thoughts and experiences with metal hulled inflatables.

The boat is only in the water when we are using it.

Thanks

David,

While I understand you have had a 12 foot inflatable for years...and have the room for one, couldn’t you save weight and space with a 10’6” boat?
We cruised many thousands of miles with 2 Golden Retrievers and never had capacity issues. The boat had a “Eurohelm” & a 20 hp engine with tilt/trim.

Regardless of size, if you sacrifice the flat double floor and the bow locker that the lightest aluminum RIBS entail, you may regret the wet feet/cargo and difficult boarding that result.
