I have put books on a card table on my lawn.  A variety of ages.  Please take what you would like.  I have washed my hands and wiped both the table and books with Clorox Cleanup.  The sunlight also helps.  I put the books out at 4 PM so there will be time for that to be a factor.  HOWEVER, all of these books have been in my house for several years and no one has had them out until this morning.  Anything added will be cleaned. If you want to leave a book, I am setting a basket under the table.  I will not put out those books until I have wiped them down. and my door handle has been cleaned thoroughly many times. I hope this helps aleviate any concerns and that some of the kids enjoy the books.  I do not need them back.  If you do return, just put them in the basket and I will reclean them before recycling. I have some popular middle school books that I bring tomorrow. Again, no one has read them in years however, I will spray them with Lysol and let them dry in the sun.
