Ralph, thank you for responding.

Just my wife and I, using the boat as liveaboards for 4 to 6 month periods,
with occasional guests for SHORT (max a week) periods.

We are mainly coastal cruisers, anchoring out most of the time. Looking for
creature comforts such Generator, A/C, etc., etc., and economical engines
running at 12-14knots most of the times. We will be traveling with other boats and
want to be able to keep up with them without breaking the bank for fuel or
overworking the engines.

The few used 36 footers I see listed have either the 125 HP or 170 HP engines.

My big concern is the extra HP worth while, re: fuel use, and extra weight,
etc.

It is great to speak with a past owner of the exact boat we like, so any
information and knowledge you can give me will be helpful.

Also, when we are looking is there anything that is not apparent we should be
careful of and look for?

Thank you once again.

Chuck,

My wife and I used our Endeavour 36 much as you plan to. We did have a couple on board with us for 4 weeks once which actually worked pretty well as there is a great deal of privacy between the 2 aft staterooms.

We had most of the creature comforts. My theory is "if my wife is happy on the boat, I get to spend more time on it". Would recommend the solar panels if you plan to anchor out a lot. We did not have them on the 36 but do have them on the 44, and they really work great.

We had the 125 Yanmars - heard, but can't personally confirm, that the higher horsepower engines did not add much speed. Apparently added weight offset extra horsepower. Would be best to talk with someone who has the 170's and talk with Bob Vincent at Endeavour who has always been very open about pros and cons selections. We normally cruised in the 12-14 kts. area or at 7-8 kts., both of which seemed to be sweet spots for our engines. When running at the higher speeds, we did need to try to keep the boat lighter. WE normally looked at 200 gallons of fuel as being full and often only filled to 150 gallons. We also usually kept our water tank about 1/2 full when running. It is also necessary to keep the bottom and especially the props clean as any growth noticeably slows the boat at cruising speed.

Don't know if you are looking at a new or used boat. Our boat was a 2001 model and know that many small improvements were made from year to year. Endeavour is very good about continually improving their boats based primarily on owner input. If looking at used boats, I would just make sure you know exactly what is included on the boat as the option list was pretty long plus many owners added items not on their option list.

Hope this is helpful.
