Beacon report

Good morning,

The frost is definitely on the pumpkins this morning.  I am hearing the beacon on 1296 for the first time in several days.  The signal is fairly steady, minimal QSB and about 15 dB over my baseline noise on the SDR.

It’s good to hear things working.

I revamped my power system to the preamps.  My old, home-brew voltage switch used a TIP 105 to turn the voltage off when transmitting.  It had about three volts drop in the switch, probably due to poor design on my part.  I tried to revise it a couple of times over the past several years, but to no avail.  Finally I threw it all out and replaced it with an FET power switch module somebody gave me about twenty years ago.  It has only a few millivolts drop.  I should have used it sooner.  I have a spare. Hopefully, this one will last.

Dave, K4TO

Where is the 1296 beacon (6 character grid) and what is its frequency?
Does it have an omni antenna or is it pointed a certain direction? I'd
like to listen for it.

Hi Zack...

Would love to have regular signal reports on it if you are willing, much like what K4TO is doing. Would be a useful propagation study to have it in two different directions.

Thanks.

Thanks folks! I take it this is correct:

Beacons: 1296.079 W8KSE EM79ur Dayton, OH---- 2W to Big Wheel at 800' AGL.

Probably plus or minus frequency with a little drift.

Hopefully, this one will last. >>> >>> 73, >>> >>> Dave, K4TO >>> _______________________________________________ >>> mvus-list mailing list >>> mvus-list@febo.com >>> https://www.febo.com/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/mvus-list >> <div id="DAB4FAD8-2DD7-40BB-A1B8-4E2AA1F9FDF2"><br /> >> <table style="border-top: 1px solid #D3D4DE;"> >> <tr> >> <td style="width: 55px; padding-top: 13px;"><a >> href="https://www.avast.com/sig-email?utm_medium=email&utm_source=link&utm_campaign=sig-email&utm_content=webmail&utm_term=icon" >> target="_blank"><img >> src="https://ipmcdn.avast.com/images/icons/icon-envelope-tick-round-orange-animated-no-repeat-v1.gif" >> alt="" width="46" height="29" style="width: 46px; height: 29px;" >> /></a></td> >> <td style="width: 470px; padding-top: 12px; color: #41424e; >> font-size: 13px; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; >> line-height: 18px;">Virus-free. <a >> href="https://www.avast.com/sig-email?utm_medium=email&utm_source=link&utm_campaign=sig-email&utm_content=webmail&utm_term=link" >> target="_blank" style="color: #4453ea;">www.avast.com</a> >> </td> >> </tr> >> </table><a href="#DAB4FAD8-2DD7-40BB-A1B8-4E2AA1F9FDF2" width="1" >> height="1"></a></div> >> _______________________________________________ >> mvus-list mailing list >> mvus-list@febo.com >> https://www.febo.com/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/mvus-list >>
