Gentlemen,
It's time to ante up. We need a final list of available players for Ruggerfest. This tournament will be extremely competitive this year, as a cash prize is on the line.
In speaking with Coach Peacock, IF YOU EXPECT TO PLAY D2 THIS SEASON, or if you aspire to earn a A-side spot, then you need to play in this tournament. It is not a social tournament and the level of play will be of greater quality than our league matches. As a team, we will approach Ruggerfest as a playoff-level series of matches.
The timing is not only important for clearing out cobwebs and building chemistry with the squad, but is also pivotal because the tournament falls in a large gap in the D2 schedule between our first league match and our second--in which we host Park City.
The Open Division games are on Saturday, September 19 and the finals are on Sunday, September 20. PLEASE RESPOND TO ME with your availability and provide a VALID excuse IF you cannot make the tournament. I need to hear from you by Saturday evening, so we can reach out to our lodging contact before the weekend passes.
Thank you,
Kris

Boys,
We did not get an adequate number of players available to play in
Ruggerfest next week. Thank you to those of you who responded promptly and
planned to attend.
Frankly, I'm disappointed that we couldn't field a strong side. This is an
important tournament and the D2 side needs to play more competitive rugby
between this weekend's match and our next, against Park City.
Please keep your schedules open because we are planning a substitute match
between these two upcoming league matches.
Thank you,

Definitely disappointing. Honestly, I don't understand why there is any
hesitation in committing to participate in one of the best rugby
tournaments in the nation - spoken from someone who has been going to
tournaments for 23 years - in a beautiful place in our backyard. Players
from all over the country spend hundreds of dollars and take time off work
to attend this tournament every year, and all we have to do is drive up the
hill and crash in a hotel with a bunch of our mates. Regardless, my note
isn't to voice my disappointment but rather to encourage all interested in
watching great rugby, socializing with other rugby players, and getting
away for a fun weekend in the mountains to make the trip to Aspen. A few
points to consider when contemplating making the trip for the weekend, Sat
& Sun.
- You can watch great rugby by local teams - Glendale, Barbos, Albuquerque,
etc. - and teams from afar for the whole day on Saturday.
- If you are looking to play some rugby, there is usually an opportunity to
whore on with teams as they finish up their brackets later in the afternoon.
- You will see several players that are in the Eagles pool or who have
played for the Eagles in the past playing. In the over-35 finals I have
played in recently, I would say that there were at least a dozen former
Eagles, 7s and 15s, on the field at some point.
- Great social environment - beer, sun, and rugby during the day, Rugby
Colorado fundraiser on Sat night, and full bars on Saturday evening.
- Finally, a chance to support your fellow Harlequins that are playing in
Ruggerfest - me, Perna, Adam Durica, Coach Perle, etc. - and further build
the Harlequin brand. It would be great to have a strong section of current
Harlequin players at the fields this weekend.
If you haven't been in Aspen for rugby finals on Sunday, you are missing
one of the best rugby environments around. I hope to see a lot of you up
there.
See you at practice tonight. Let's focus on getting started on the right
foot.
