We haven't been able to find any reasonable priced insurance for other than
Liability for Swan Song in eight years of trying. Our risk is either too
high to even get a quote or when we do the cost is out of our budget..in the
order of 5-7% of the value for 10-20% deductible policies! That's $15-20K
out of the cruising budget!!
We self insure so we can go where we wish when we wish without some
underwriter who's sitting in an office somewhere looking at his risk tables
saying no, no, no, yes, no, to a cruising itinerary. Better to keep the
money and use it to plan/equip for the worse. Then work the natural &
political & safety elements to your comfortable risk levels, IMO.
What is the experience of others in obtaining insurance to cover their
"offshore" voyages?

I had assumed that the Suez insurance was a requirement for passage.
Wouldn't there be some ripoff insurance agencies at each end of the canal to
sell you transit insurance only? Is there a similar requirement (I imagine)
for the Panama Canal?
Lastly, the Suez is far less risk than the Red Sea.

I have been able to find insurance from a US company for all the US,
Caribbean, North Atlantic, and Mediterranean for about .9% of the vessel
value. It includes terrorism coverage. The boat is a Nordhavn 46.
