Common Grackle - Feb 01, South Island Park Dr, Manotick, Ottawa We are now in the second year of the Third Ontario Breeding Bird Atlas: an ambitious five-year effort to provide data that will guide environmental policies and conservation strategies across Ontario for years to come. Participation is easy and can be as simple as just importing your eBird checklists into the Atlas. Though the majority of our birds breed in the late spring and summer, there are a few species that are already well into their breeding season including Great Horned Owls and Eastern Screech Owls. Observers encountering these species at this time of year – even if they are simply in suitable habitat -- are invited to report their sightings to the Atlas. As well, both Red Crossbill and White-winged Crossbills may be found in Eastern Ontario. They are nomadic and search for large crops of cones. All sightings of these species – regardless of season -- are also welcome in the Atlas.
