We encountered rough seas coming out of Naples in Gordon Pass and into the
Gulf to Fort Myers this pass Spring. We estimated 7-9 ft. waves. This was
totally unexpected as we would have stayed put in the marina. Prediction was
3-4 ft. seas. Sun, our little 12 lb. poodle, planted his feet firmly on the
carpet, nails dug in with legs spread wide apart and held on like that while
his master went down on his knees twice trying to secure things flying about.
The Admiral took the helm to plow through the wave action coming abeam,
forward and aft. Sun began throwing up about 10 minutes into the trip. He
always wears a life jacket while underway as do his owners. When we are on
long passages across the Gulf and expecting seas more than 3 ft. we give him
25 mg. Dramamine as prescribed by his Vet. That works fine for him. He likes
to park himself on the sofa while underway and he tries desperately to keep
his sleepy eyes on us. We drive our boat at the down helm where it is much
more comfortable.
