Aluminum hulled Inflatables

David,

I have an Aluminum hulled AB inflatable that was new in early 2010.  It was recommended by my boat builder as light and durable, especially when running ashore on sand and gravel shores like we have in Lake Superior.  It has been very durable and the hull is maintenance free.  I have a 15hp 2 cycle Yamaha on it that I searched hard to find since they were being phased out then and love the complete package.

The only regret I have is the dinghy has no permanent built in fuel tank.  I did find a triangular shaped 5/6 gallon plastic tank that fit OK in the bow since additional weight isn't needed at the stern.  I have been planning on getting a custom built 3 or so gallon aluminum tank fabricated to fit better in the bow and take up less space since I use so little fuel per season a 5/6 gallon tank is unnecessary for the vast majority of my use.

I cannot comment on the brand you mention.  Mine is an ultralight 11' that is the same dimensions as the  AB Lamina series 11' that is 11'-6" long.  Mine is lighter than the currently available Lamina and weighs something like 112 lbs.  It has been very durable on withstands the short steep chop and whitecaps we often see on the Great Lakes. They also still make an ultralight version but the maximum length is a nominal 10 ft model which weighs only 87 lbs.

You can see AB products and specs at  abinflatablesusa.com.  When I was deciding upon my dinghy the investigation I did at the time showed that AB had a very good reputation for reliability
but they were never the cheapest.
