WIOA Hearing This Week

JC

For those strange people on this list who for some reason who don’t follow me on twitter, I should pass on to you something I posted this morning:

The House Education and the Workforce Committee is holding hearing this Thursday on WIOA (!), entitled "Helping Americans Get Back to Work: Implementation of the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act.”

See: http://ow.ly/rHRE30cw1JR

And, to demonstrate once again what an insider I am: I had no idea this was coming, or what it’s about, or who the witnesses are going to be. Anyone know? A couple of weeks ago I asked Amy Jones  (Ed& Workforce staff) about whether they might be thinking about a WIOA hearing — you know, just to see how things are going — and she said that was a possibility but I didn’t get the feeling it was imminent. Maybe I shouldn’t have asked...

The title  of the hearing suggests it may not touch much on Title II, (that was not unprecedented back in the WIA days), but I truly have no idea. Again, perhaps someone else on the list may know.

Have there been any Ed & Workforce hearings on WIOA since it was enacted?

Thanks Judy. I would say then that this is one for us to pay attention to for sure.

Surely Kermit will get into Title II a bit — I reckon David Bradley will too, in his overview.

Hi everyone — confering with Judy this AM, it appears we have hearings or events confused. The hearing this morning I posted about earlier this week, "Helping Americans Get Back to Work: Implementation of the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act” with the Subcommittee on Higher Education and Workforce Development, has a different list of witnesses than we had earlier reported.

See: https://edworkforce.house.gov/calendar/eventsingle.aspx?EventID=401733 https://edworkforce.house.gov/calendar/eventsingle.aspx?EventID=401733

Here is the list:

Ms. Michelle Paczynski
Deputy Assistant Executive Director for Workforce and Economic Development
South Carolina Department of Employment and Workforce
Columbia, SC

Mr. Heath Berlin
Information Assurance Manager
Naval Health Clinic
Annapolis, MD

Mr. Ron Painter
President
National Association of Workforce Boards
Washington, DC

Mr. Louis Dubin
Board Chair
Workforce Development Board for the State of Maryland
Baltimore, MD

I may stop by to make faces at Ron.

But in any event, the event will be streamed here:
