2018 Call for Artists

Eligibility

  •     Artists must be 55 years of age or older.
    
  •     Entries must be entirely the original work of the artist.
    
  •     Work must have been created within the last three years. (October 2015 - September 2018)
    
  •     All two-dimensional works on paper must be protected with glass or Plexiglass. Work must be sturdily framed and have hanging wires. No sawtooth hangers. Two-dimensional work must not exceed 60" in width or 40" in height, including frame.
    
  •     Sculpture may not exceed 60"x24"x24".
    
  •     Entries submitted should consider the 2018 theme of Interpreting the Northwest.
    
  •     Franke Tobey Jones reserves the right to refuse any work which does not meet the criteria or that contains unsuitable material.
    

Entries

  •     All entries should be submitted as digital image (.jpg) files.
    
  •     A non-refundable entry fee of $35 covers a maximum of three entries per artist.
    
  •     Deadline for completed form, images and fee is Saturday, June 30, 2018.
    
  •     Artists will be notified of the jury's decision by August 1, 2018. At that time, a 20-word description of the work may be requested, as well as an artist bio.
    
  •     Artists are responsible for delivering accepted work to the MJ Wicks Family Wellness Center at Franke Tobey Jones on Wednesday, October 3 between 2 pm and 5 pm.
    
  •     It is assumed that all works are for sale unless otherwise specified. Artists will handle their own sales and may provide business cards with contact information. In the event of a sale, a donation of a percentage to Franke Tobey Jones is encouraged.
    
  •     Works must not be removed from the show until after 3 pm on Sunday, October 7. No exceptions, please.
    

Up to 30 entries from the Franke Tobey Jones exhibit will be chosen for a Community Art Show exhibit at Tacoma Art Museum which runs from October 10 - December 27, 2018. Please note that being chosen for the Franke Tobey Jones exhibit does not guarantee that your artwork will be chosen for the TAM exhibit. Artists will be responsible for delivering their chosen artworks to TAM on Tuesday, October 9 between 10 am - 12 pm and then pick up their artwork(s) on December 28 between 10 am - 12 pm. There will be a reception at TAM on November 15 and there will be an opportunity for select participating artists to give an artist demonstration at that event.

Prizes

Awards will be given for First ($200), Second ($100) and Third place ($50). These awards will be presented at the reception on October 4. A People's Choice award will also be given at the end of the show's run on October 7 and the winner will be notified. All winners will also receive a $100 gift certificate towards framing from Museum Quality Framing.

Curator

After graduating with a BA in Fine Arts, Abrian Curington started an independent publishing company, dedicated to publishing illustrated books and comics. She is currently involved in a campaign to bring awareness to the artisan industry through her graphic novels as she is also a weaver. She has self-published 2 books to date and is working on the third. She has also worked as a Curatorial Assistant for LeMay - America's Car Museum.
