Observation end time: 16:00:00
Total observation time: 8.75 hours
Official Counter: Maryse Gagné
Observers: Kory Renaud, Noel Herdman
Visitors:
We appreciate all the interest in the tower and the hawk watch but remind
everyone that the tower remains closed to members of the public and has a
three-person limit reserved for the Hawk Counters. Thank you to all who are
respecting these precautions. Be safe everyone!
Weather:
Cool crisp start with -3 degrees Celsius, and the temperature did not
increase much more after that, staying around 5 degrees Celsius. For a few
hours in the morning, the sun worked really hard to warm the air and did
succeed for a while until thick clouds came in to ruin the fun. The wind
blew in from the South-East most of the day, keeping most migrants at bay.
Raptor Observations:
Raptors came in drips and drabs today with only 74 individuals for our
daily total. Of those 49 were Red-tailed Hawks and 7 were Red-shouldered
Hawks. One Rough-legged Hawk was spotted very far North of the tower, its
white tail a bright spot against the grey clouds. A few Cooper's Hawks,
Northern Harriers, Bald Eagle, and Turkey Vultures also crossed the marsh.
Non-raptor Observations:
Luckily, some American Crows were on the move today with 795 individuals. A
few smatterings of American Goldfinches, Pine Siskins, and Horned Larks
also flew above our heads.
On the marsh, Northern Shovelers are standing their ground against the
continued onslaught of Ring-necked Ducks. A few Common Merganser and Horned
Grebes were also spotted on the lake.

Predictions:
Not a nice day tomorrow, plain and simple. On and off rain is expected most
of the day and strong Southerly winds are predicted to gust to at least 70
km/h. Raptors will probably forgo any migration and stay put, and so should
our counters. Good luck out there, folks!
