I have the Mobile hotspot on my Verizon smart phone with 6GB of data
monthly. There are probably geekier ways to do the same thing for less
money, but it has worked extremely well for us as we have traveled up and
down the east coast of the USA. I am not sure how great the coverage is on
other parts of the Loop yet.

We also have a Wi-Fi booster that allows us to get strong signals from
fairly far away, but you cannot count on finding an unsecured router to tap
into these days. Mostly, it is a great way to have a reliable signal from
the marina where you are already paying to stay.

Subject: GL: Wifi and cellular extended coverage

Drawing on the wealth of experience this group has, I am looking for an
economical solution to get increased cellular coverage on my boat. In
addition, I was thinking of using my cell phone as a "hot spot" to gain
expanded wifi coverage. Is this a viable option?
Any recommendations to meet these two objectives would be greatly
appreciated.
