To: "Passagemaking Under Power List"

I've read a number of postings that advise most insurance companies won't
allow (cover?) you for ocean passages unless you have at least 3 crew
members.  As my circumnavigation plans are oriented around my wife and I
being alone 80% of the time, I'm concerned about how to address the
insurance issue.  Do most long distance voyagers purchase insurance that
covers the replacement cost of the vessel?  If so, how does a couple deal
with the crew requirements that may be called out by the insurance company?

Shorepoint Insurance does not  have any crew requirements past two.

We also have heard of boaters having their boat "illegally impounded"
by foreign governments / revolutionary groups and insurance claims
being denied on the grounds of war/terrorism.

Shorepoint were the only ones that would provide us with War and
Terrorism coverage.

They also provided really wide coverage for us--our Cruising limits are
Hawaii east to Turkey.

Shorepoint is by far the most common insurance provider for Nordhavn
I talk to who are doing world cruising.

(Who knows if I can con the wife into needing Turkey east to Hawaii!)

No relationship to the company, except as a happy customer,
however I have never had a claim, so I have faced the ultimate test.
