Some companies are still "doing it right". Had a problem on the southern Chesapeake (home port North Carolina) and needed a new water pump. One of the guidebooks said Zimmerman Marine was near by (Cardinal, Va), so anchored out and called them first thing in the a.m. Gave us directions and sent a dingy to guide us in. EXTREMELY polite, friendly staff (everyone introduces themselves, shakes your hand and welcomes you, even the folks who will have nothing to do with your repair). They ordered the part; their part price was cheaper than we could have obtained, probably because it was to the trade, but they passed that savings along, because they told us the exact price of the part. Before they do any work, the service coordinator looks at the job, gives you a rate sheet with hourly costs, and then estimates the hours. Had to wait for the part to be delivered, but had a cozy little spot to stay with very clean bathrooms, etc. Pretty unusual for a working boat yard. When the job
was done, we were given the card for their Deltaville office and told to call them if we had any problem. Of course, we had no problem with the pump, but then a hose on the generator went, so we just went right to Zimmerman, already confident in their expertise, and we were not disappointed. Highly recommended if you need any work done while in this area of the Chesapeake (East River off Mobjack Bay, and Deltaville). Ed Gibson is the Service? Coordinator 804-725-3440.? Steve Zimmerman is the President, as I understand his father was before him. They also build beautiful boats. PS the Deltaville docks on a Saturday night are a hoot!

I can second all the good comments about Zimmerman's.  Two years ago we
limped in there with a truly obscure problem with fuel coolers.  I don't
think many marinas could have analyzed the problem like Zimmermans.  While
laying in there for a few days, we also enjoyed one of the least developed
sections of Chesapeake Bay waterfront.
