Hi:
I recently purchased, via eBay, a Ublox LEA M8T HUAWEI GPS Module.
Before I hook it up, I wanted to confirm the connections that were provided
to me
by the seller: (Ignore the fact that the vendors picture shows a LEA-5T)
[image: Ublox-Huawei-LEA-M8T-Module-PinOut-s-l1600.jpg]
If anyone has used one of these modules, does this wiring picture look
correct to you?
Second Question: Can the Antenna 3.3 volts shown in green, and the
module/chip 3..3 volts
shown in red, be connected together and run from the same power supply?
Thanks in advance for any guidance.

Hi Neal,
Yes, the connections as mentioned in the picture are correct. Couple of months ago I draw the schematic and component layout, just for fun.
You can tie both voltages together, reason that they separated this is (according te me) that you can supply the antenna with 5V if required.
Regards, Rob

Hi
If you take a look at a few other sellers, some of them post a schematic. The claim is that
it’s the same for all of these boards (5T,6T,M8T). While they have it up, it would be a good
idea to grab a copy. One of many examples is item 134203045552
Based on what’s on that schematic, yes, you can hook 3.3 to both pins. If your antenna is
happy with a 3.3V supply that should work fine. If you need to go to a higher voltage, probably
best to do a bit of digging into the specs on this and on that.

Hi,
the pinout of these modules is pretty standard. You can verify it e.g. in the datasheet of ublox RCB-F9T https://www.u-blox.com/en/product/rcb-f9t-timing-board
I personally have also similar form factor and connector boards with ublox M8T and the Trimble Resolution T. All have the same pinout.

That pinout looks correct. The diagram I have used successfully is attached
Yes, you can use the same 3.3 V supply for the board and the antenna.
Note that the header pin spacing is 2.0 mm, not the more common 0.1 in.

You will probably need to add a couple of wires, See attached photo.
The boards I buy usually don't bring out the second time pulse signal
(Pink) and you can also optionally add a wire (Yellow) for external reset.

I have not used this particular board but I have used the M8T (on a board I designed)
I would use a multimeter to check the connections to the pins from the M8T.
Check section 2.2 of the data sheet. https://content.u-blox.com/sites/default/files/documents/NEO-LEA-M8T-FW3_DataSheet_UBX-15025193.pdf
Although note that it says “via 33R” so check the resistance rather than use continuity testing.
Second Question: Can the Antenna 3.3 volts shown in green, and the

Yes.
The M8T can detect antenna shorts and disconnect power. It can also optionally detect open circuit but that requires external circuitry.
I have found the ublox documentation quite good and freely available - it is well worth digging into.
