SR 520 Bridge Replacement and HOV Program
Reminder: SR 520 closing this weekend (after the Husky game)

It’s another big weekend for construction on the Eastside and we are closing SR 520 at 8 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 15, and reopening 5 a.m. Monday morning, Oct. 17. We’re looking out for Husky football fans by making sure we keep game day traffic flowing on SR 520 and complete major construction all in the same weekend.

Just like during previous weekend work, crews plan to completely close the SR 520 floating bridge and highway from Montlake Boulevard in Seattle to I-405 in Bellevue. This time crews will focus on installing the first massive concrete girders that will form a new highway lid in Medina.

Kickoff for the Huskies game is Saturday at 12:30 p.m., and we will wait to close the highway and ramps until 8 p.m. Our website has more information about the Eastside Transit and HOV Project, including construction photos and what the new lid will look like.

Plan ahead now: Alaskan Way Viaduct to shut down starting Oct. 21 for nine days

In just over a week, we will close the Alaskan Way Viaduct for nine days so crews can demolish the southern mile of the seismically vulnerable double-deck structure.

The viaduct will close from 7:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 21, through 5 a.m. Oct. 31. While crews are demolishing part of the viaduct and completing connections to new SR 99 lanes in SODO, drivers will face daily commutes without one of Seattle’s two crucial north-south freeways.

We are asking drivers and transit riders to get ready and plan alternate routes now to avoid regional gridlock as up to 110,000 daily drivers adjust their trips during the closure.

Please visit our closure website for more information about the closure and alternate routes.

Join us Nov. 9 for the second SR 520 community design public session

We are continuing to seek community feedback on the design features of the I-5 to Medina project. Last month, we received comments and ideas on how to enhance the environment and improve SR 520 for drivers, transit riders, bicyclists and pedestrians.
We’re hosting a second public session of the Seattle Community Design Process on from 4-7 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 9 at the Museum of History & Industry, to build upon those conversations. We will share concepts that represent ideas from the first public session and listen to your feedback on community connections, lids and bridge structures from I-5 to the west end of the floating bridge.
