As anything but a seasoned mariner, I'm really not qualified to give advice.
However, for what it's worth, we just delivered our new-to-us trawler to
Palacios, Texas from Fort Lauderdale (1300 nm). I never once looked at a paper
chart. We have Tiki-Navigator for planning and back up to a low-end Garmin
chart plotter.
Yes, I was lucky and God protects the fools, but navigation was the least of
the hurtles we had to overcome.
