As anything but a seasoned mariner, I'm really not qualified to give advice. However, for what it's worth, we just delivered our new-to-us trawler to Palacios, Texas from Fort Lauderdale (1300 nm). I never once looked at a paper chart. We have Tiki-Navigator for planning and back up to a low-end Garmin chart plotter.
