dozens of local events scheduled. Some are listed below by region
(Westchester, Rockland or Hudson Valley), date and time. There are many
more, all the way to Albany but I don't have a listing of them yet.

WESTCHESTER
Tuesday, July 3
6-10 p.m., Valhalla: A disc jockey will play songs at 6 p.m., followed
by the Bensen-Scott Big Band at 8 p.m., and fireworks at 9:15 p.m.;
bring blankets and folding chairs for seating (Kensico Dam Plaza,

Wednesday, July 4
10 a.m.-9:30 p.m., Dobbs Ferry: The Thomas Cullen July 4th Picnic in
the Park event will feature music, games and food by day and fireworks
by night at Waterfront Park (80 Shore Dr., Dobbs Ferry). A fishing
derby is from 10 a.m.-noon, a flag ceremony is at 12:30 p.m., an
all-day barbecue with food and DJ tunes is from 1 to 9 p.m. and the
fireworks display starts around 9:30 p.m. Village residents can park at

7 p.m., Peekskill: Blues and funk band Black Dirt will play a concert
at Riverfront Green Park (Hudson Avenue and Route 9, Peekskill) before

ROCKLAND
Tuesday, July 3
6:30 p.m., Nanuet: An aeronautic show and live entertainment kick off
the night, with a performance by That Sixties Show at 8 p.m. and
fireworks after the concert at Nanuet High School (103 Church St.,

7-9:30 p.m., West Haverstraw: A concert featuring The Heart Beat Dance
Group starts at 7 p.m., followed by a fireworks display at Bowline
Point Park (140 Samsondale Ave.; West Haverstraw). Rain date is July 4.

Wednesday, July 4
6 p.m., Pomona: In addition to fireworks following the Rockland
Boulders’ game against the New Jersey Jackals at Provident Bank Park (1
Provident Bank Park Dr., Pomona), fans can participate in the annual
hot dog eating contest (or buy them for $1 each at select concession

9 p.m., Nyack: Fireworks will be set off at dusk at Memorial Park

HUDSON VALLEY
Monday, July 2
5-9 p.m., Garrison: There are no fireworks at this event, but if you’re
seeking another way to celebrate the nation’s birthday, head to the
Great American Concert and Picnic at Boscobel (1601 New York 9D,
Garrison). The event includes a performance by the Southern Dutchess
Concert Band at 7 p.m., and picnicking beginning at 5 p.m. Sparklers
and American flags are available for purchase in the museum shop. Rain
date is July 9. Tickets are $14.40-$16 for adults; children 12 and

Tuesday, July 3
7 p.m., Wappingers Falls: For fans of both minor-league baseball and
pyrotechnics, fireworks will follow the Hudson Valley Renegades’ game

7-9:30 p.m., East Fishkill: Adam and the Newhearts kicks off the
celebration with hits from the ’50s and ’60s at East Fishkill

Wednesday, July 4
Noon-10 p.m., Cornwall: The all-day Independence Day celebration will
feature food, vendors and entertainment at Town Hall (183 Main St.,
Cornwall), and fireworks at about 9:30 p.m. Admission is free, but a

Noon-9 p.m., Newburgh: An all-day Independence Day celebration at UNICO
Park (Front Street, Newburgh) includes an art show on the river from
noon to 6 p.m., live music from Dr. Magkneetoe from 6 to 9 p.m. and
fireworks at dusk, set off from a barge on the Hudson River. Free.

3-9:30 p.m., Cold Spring: A parade steps off on Main Street at 3 p.m.,
concluding at the waterfront with a community day that features food
and entertainment. The fireworks display goes off at dusk at Dockside
Park (West Street, Cold Spring). Rain date is Sept. 1. Free. Info:

6:30-10 p.m., Poughkeepsie and Highland: Walkway Over the Hudson, the
pedestrian bridge that spans the Hudson River between Poughkeepsie
(Washington St.) in Dutchess County and Highland (87 Haviland Rd.) in
Ulster County, will open to the public at 6:30 p.m. before the
fireworks show about 9:30 p.m. Those who attend are encouraged to
bring chairs, snacks and flashlights. Tickets are $10; free for kids 5

9:15 p.m., Beacon: Fireworks will be set off at dusk at Memorial Park

5 p.m., New Paltz: Music, food and festivities will be followed by
fireworks at dusk at the Ulster County Fairgrounds (Libertyville Road,

8 p.m., West Point: The West Point Band’s Music Under the Stars series
continues with an Independence Day concert and fireworks at the Trophy
Point Amphitheater (Ruger Road, West Point). The audience is encouraged
