Stewardship Partners, the Pierce Stream Team, and the City of University
Place invite you to a FREE, two-hour rain garden workshop on July 13,
6-8 p.m., at Narrows View Intermediate School (7813 44th St. W.,
University Place).

A rain garden is a shallow depression in a yard that is planted with a
variety of flowers, shrubs, and grasses, to help manage run-off from
hard surfaces and filter pollutants on-site.  At this workshop, you will
learn how rain gardens help soak up rainwater from downspouts,
driveways, and sidewalks, while protecting our local waterways.  When
planted with the right types of plants, rain gardens also attract birds,
butterflies, and bees.

At the workshop, you will receive a free rain garden manual and
instruction on the basics for building your own rain garden.  You will
be able to see a rain garden installed earlier this year on site at
Narrows View Intermediate School, and learn about opportunities to gain
hands-on experience to create rain gardens later this year.

This workshop is FREE, but registration is required.  To register, call
or email the Pierce Stream Team at (253) 845-2973 or
streamteam@piercecountycd.org.  Confirmation and other information will
be sent at the time of registration.

(Note:  This is the last scheduled rain garden workshop in Pierce County
in 2010, and you do not need to be a University Place resident to
attend.  All are welcome!)
