Crossing in company to the Mediterranean

Judy and I plan to take Bluewater to the Mediterranean, crossing in
spring 2007, and are interested in cruising in company with other
oceangoing motoryachts that are Mediterranean bound. We were
involved with the Nordhavn Atlantic Rally 2004 and saw first-hand
the great advantages of the camaraderie and safety of cruising in
company, and for the same reasons we're eager for company on this
crossing.

If you're considering in crossing to the Med (or the Atlantic coast
of France, Spain or Portugal) in 2007, please contact me either on
this board or offline or give me a call at 954-610-5193.

Let me say that I don't envision anything as complex or "organized"
as the NAR! In fact, I should emphasize that there is no plan to
put together any kind of official rally. Rather, the idea here is
informal coordination among a group of skippers all going roughly
the same direction at the same time at more or less the same speed.

Likewise, let me say that in a crossing like this there will be
no "fleet admiral," but rather a bunch of independent captains, each
making his or her own decisions. As skippers are wont to do, we can
compare notes and weather routing information and other data, but
each skipper will be responsible for his own boat, crew and
decisions.

Ideally, what I'd like to see is a group of perhaps a half dozen
yachts cruising in company, departing Florida or elsewhere on the
east coat in late May with stops in Bermuda, the Azores and
Gibraltar. But that's just for openers . . . if you have other
ideas, by all means let me hear from you.

Our plan is to have Bluewater in the Med for perhaps three years,
cruising in the spring, summer and early fall, then returning to the
USA for the winter. Having watched the NAR boats do this, we'd love
to have other boats to share the experience with.

Thanks,
