Subject: Re: Fwd: [Talk] Code contribution functional review request: CONDITION CHECK
Hi Megan,
Michael Black forwarded your request for information to me and I thought I would write you back directly with my comments since I haven't joined the CSpace Talk list yet.
I find the Walker Condition Check schema most useful for certain aspects of my work at the Phoebe Hearst Museum for both the Object Condition and Technical Assessment Information, and Condition Check/Technical Assessment Information sections. Questions that came to my mind included: how large are some of the text fields and whether we would be able to modify the controlled lists to meet our own unique (given that our collections differ from the Walker's) circumstances. I especially like the inclusion of the Environmental Condition and Hazards notes.
In terms of the Object Requirement Information section, I appreciate seeing the normal display, handling, etc. recommendations, but wonder how much of the legal/license requirements fields are necessary in a condition check. Also, whether I should be able to modify information about valuation, insurance and Rights. While I appreciate seeing this information, just as I wouldn't want the people who handle Legal Issues for the museum to be able to modify Conservation fields, I would think that they too would not want me to modify fields that are their responsibility.
Otherwise, this looks like a great move forward in Cspace!
Best regards,
Madeleine
