Cruising America's Great Loop and other inland routes

"Fiddlesticks" is a 1985 Mainship 36 ft. double (aft) cabin. It has
twin Crusader (gas) engines, 350 cubic inches and 270 hp each.
Our boat will cruise easily on plane at 15 kts but burns about
one gallon per statute mile at this speed. We ran on plane
in the Gulf, Lake Okeechobee, Delaware Bay, New Jersey
offshore, Lake Ontario and other times when the seas
were uncomfortable or the weather window was short.
But whenever possible we ran on one engine at about
7 kts (plus or minus the current) and 2 statute miles per
gallon or better. Our overall average for the loop was
1.5 mpg. We bought 3889 gallons and spent $8672.
I'm sure I could have done better but there are times when
a little speed is very nice. We generally enjoyed the slower
speeds a lot more than faster.
BTW gasoline is available everywhere. We had no
problems with range.

Do you have at least an estimate of your fuel usage
per mile?
