As a longtime catamaran dealer, I'm skeptical about ALL manufacturer's
displacement ratings. Why? Because it's so common to hoist a cat with a
crane that has a highly accurate weight gauge, and discover -- surprise,
surprise -- that the boat's actual weight is considerably more than that
boat's brochure specifies.
And when I say "considerably," I can think of one specific model that
weighs almost six tons MORE than the brochure says.
I pointedly asked the builder why this was so? He told me outright --
the competition does it, and my sales would be much more adversely
affected by my not doing the same, as compared to printing the actual
weight for my model while also trying to "educate" would-be buyers that
the competition is "fudging" with its numbers.
Having said that, 41,000 seems pretty substantial. I was in New Zealand
when a NZ-designed-and-built 47' power cat was being hauled. The fully
accurate scale on the hoist showed just over 28,000 pounds. Of course,
different engines and tankage can affect such readings. And I imagine
that contruction styles (i.e., solid glass layup vs. cored
construction), can make a big difference, too. But again, short of
weighing a variety of cats with the same scale, I'd say that the figures
given in brochures are, at least some times, more affected by wishful
thinking (or competitors' previous "tall tales") than true displacement
figures.

Thank you for sharing the particulars of your yacht with us, Bill.
With that kind of heft, Double-Wide is going to be one heckuva battleship.
For comparison, here are displacement data of several other power
catamarans of similar lengths:
-- Endeavour 44 TrawlerCat, 23,000 pounds
-- Manta 44 Powercat, 24,000 pounds
-- Cumberland 44, 28,000 pounds.
What are the advantages and disadvantages of hauling so much weight around?
