I found it in a review. It is $180,000. A good boat, but there are a
lot of boats around for that price. I should have thought that as
they assemble in China, they would have been able to offer a more
competitive price. Nice boat, tho.

Don't recall exactly but probably was US$150,000 or more.

Nice boat, the Arrowcat 30. No prices on the site, what kind of

There sure are!
I'm a small-boat boy at heart, but if we ever want to move up
from our
TomCat 24 (27 feet LOA), the Arrowcat 30 would top the short list.

Thanks Jack,
Seems like your opinion is the consensus. I will test it next week if I can
get down to Auckland and view the boat.
There are a couple of small launches around with outboards operating at
displacement speeds.
One has a couple of 15hp yams with pusher props and makes 9 knots cruising.
The other makes about 8 knots with two yam 9.9s.
Would hate to encounter a wind and waves scenerio on those boats!
The new Honda 60 high thrust looks very nice in terms of economy and design.
Georgs, what speed does your boat start working against it's wave? When you
cruise slow in those docks and canals below plane what speed
does your boat run along nice and flat up to?
Here is my favorite 30 cat in NZ at present. Used boat as new. He states it
is the nicest 30' boat for sale and I may not be able to argue to much on
that score...
Thanks guys.

Garry,
My cat has a 35' hull and it starts to really lose efficiency at around 9
kts. 7 is much better. I would expect a slower boat to start sucking fuel
at maybe 8.5 kts. My cat planes, but when I'm not in a hurry it sips fuel
at 8 kts. I'm planning to add an autopilot for slow running (hand steering
is just too mind-numbing...I have to push the throttles down after an hour
or two.
Just got the cat this spring - here are the build sequence photos:
And by all means, I'll trade you seafood trips. Halibut & salmon, sure, but
don't forget king crab and prawns.

WOW Bob,
Now that's a boat.
Incredible amount of deck space when you get to that size in a cat isn't
there.
What is your intended use?
Certainly make a better place to go than the shed when your in trouble at
home.
When you come you had better bring the boat and make an adventure of it.....
Interestingly my friend just got a 38' cat and it is Aluminum with a red
top. pic here, click on the red boat.

I think the red on both boats Looks good.

I'm not sure what you mean by "working against its wave."
In order to cover distance, we normally cruise the TomCat 24 at 20 to
25 mph with the two Yamaha 100s humming at about 4,200 rpm. Fuel burn
is about 10 gallons per hour, loaded for cruising. If conditions
permit, our TomCat will easily run up to 35 mph burning about 15 gph.
When sightseeing, the boat seems to like 15 mph or so. At trawler
speeds, below 10 mph, it putts along just fine.

Hi Guys,
Thanks for the input it is much appreciated!
We are off down to Auckland to look at boats this weekend and the cat will
be one of them.
After all your input I raised my concerns with the vendor..
He stated that with one 200hp 2 stroke running at 2700 rpm the boat runs
along at 9knots..With both running at 2300 he gets 9 also.
Interestingly with the 4 stroke high thrust engines thrust is stated to be
60% greater than equivalent 2 strokes. Giving me approx thrust either side
equivalent to 2 90s thru the mid range (to4500rpm).
That is not to far off his one 200hp (older) 2 stroke . This is thrust and
does not compare with wot at which point the 200 will just keep going
faster.
Upshot is that I will likely be able to run at 8-9 staying in my fuel
efficient 3000-4500 range.
I am meeting with engine reps from Yamaha and Honda to discuss further.
Handling he states is fine but does admit to hull slap in significant waves
although not bone jarring.
He states that coming off head on only slightly towards the shoulder smooths
things out at low speeds.
This I do in my current boat in any case except for the odd headland
rounding.
Good news is I try the boat sunday and at least 15knots of wind is expected
and the Hauraki gulf should poduce some of it's
steep chop for us to play in!
The boat listing is here if any of you want to take a look.....
