Transient Slip Availability

I am wondering about slip availability for my power
catamaran when traveling.  What has been the actual
experience of those on the list?  Do you get turned
away very often because of your beamy catamaran?  Do
you generally have to pay a premium for a big slip?

Our cat has a 15' 6" beam and we did not encounter width restrictions.

One time, early in our crusing, we mentioned to the dock/harbormaster that
we were a "Power Catamaran".  Immediately he cam back and said "Sorry... you
are too wide for our slips."  It wasn't until I told him our beam width did
he come back and say "oh...OK".

A second occasion, after confirming length and width of our vessel with the
dockmaster we approached the slip we were assigned.  Suddenly a person came
running out and said... "You can't fit... You can't fit...".  The image of
our cat coming into the dock must have concerned him and he thought it was
bigger and wider than what his slips could handle.  The issue was quickly
resolved when I simply confirmed "Didn't you say the slips are 16' wide?"
He replied "Yes".

It was very simple to handle the three inch clearance on each side.

You should be fine but that doesn't mean there will be some locations that
can't accomodate you.

Best Regards,

Pierre
