Ron Sims to Talk Transportation Equity in Tacoma

Ron Sims, Former Deputy Secretary, US Department of Housing and Urban Development and Former King County Executive, will be speaking in Tacoma this Friday about how transportation affects our daily lives and determines the opportunities available to us. The presentation, "Transportation Is a Life Determinant" will be held at University of Washington Tacoma (BHS 106) on Friday, Oct. 17, 2014 from noon to 1 p.m.

Transportation is vitally important to our health and economic well-being as individuals. It also affects how healthy and vibrant our community is as a whole. How do transportation options affect the job and housing options available to us? How can our city develop to encourage equitable economic development? These and other questions will be answered in discussion with Mr. Sims and Downtown On the Go this Friday.

The event is part of a larger transit promotion, Try Transit Month, Downtown On the Go's October commute campaign to get more people riding transit. More information on Try Transit Month events and campaigns are available on the DOTG websitehttp://bit.ly/1smXlPO.

The event is free and open to the public. The forum at UWT is accessible by Pierce Transithttp://www.piercetransit.org/pierce-transit-routes/ routes 1, 41, 53, 400, 500, and 501 and Tacoma Link.
